Booking means something different in childcare

A salon books a slot. A nursery books a viewing, adds a family to a waitlist, and months later enrols a child into sessions with funding applied. A holiday club books days across a week with consent and medical details stored once. A baby class books a trial and then a term by age band. A nanny agency takes a detailed family enquiry into a CRM. So "booking system" for childcare and family businesses means several kinds of software, and the website's job is to put the right one a tap away with the parent's details captured properly. Here is how the common ones compare on what a website needs.

Famly (UK, US, Europe)

For: nurseries, daycare and preschools; single and multi-site.

Website: an enquiry form for your site that creates a lead, with the waitlist managed in the platform; parents then move through to enrolment and the parent app.

Behind: occupancy and waitlist management, invoicing with funded hours handled, daily updates and photos to parents, learning journals, staff rotas and ratios.

Strengths: the most complete nursery system with a strong parent app; enquiries to enrolment in one place. Watch: setup effort; price for a very small setting.

Blossom Educational (UK)

For: nurseries and early years settings.

Website: enquiry and waitlist capture that feeds the platform's enquiry pipeline, with viewings tracked against each family.

Behind: invoicing with funding, occupancy planning, learning journals, parent app, staff management.

Strengths: strong on the enquiry-to-place pipeline and on funding in invoices. Watch: UK-focused.

Nursery In A Box and Kinderly (UK)

Nursery In A Box is nursery management with invoicing, funding and enquiries. Kinderly is primarily an early years learning journal and parent communication tool, strong for observations, less about enrolment; settings often run it beside a management system.

ClassForKids (UK)

For: children's activity clubs, baby classes, holiday clubs, sports and dance for kids.

Website: a booking page per class or camp you link or embed from the site; parents book a trial, a term or specific days and pay online.

Behind: registers on the app, waitlists, term rollover, parent payments and reminders, consent and medical details stored on the child's record.

Strengths: built for children's classes and clubs; parents book and pay without a call. Watch: not for nurseries.

Sawyer (US)

For: children's classes, camps and semesters.

Website: an embeddable schedule and booking widget; family profiles with children attached; semesters, drop-ins, camps and memberships.

Strengths: the standard for US kids' activity providers; good discovery through its own marketplace. Watch: US-centric.

Bookeo (worldwide)

For: viewing slots, party rooms, classes and courses.

Website: embeddable booking for appointments (a nursery viewing), classes and courses (a baby class term) and party bookings with deposits.

Strengths: flexible and affordable, which is why it appears on so many childcare sites for the viewing calendar. Watch: no nursery management behind it; it books, it does not enrol.

Others

Acuity and Calendly book viewing slots and agency consultations and embed cleanly. TeamUp handles class and course booking for baby class providers. iPAL is used by UK after-school and holiday clubs for session booking. ROLLER, Xola and Party Center Software book party rooms with packages and deposits at children's party venues. TutorBird and Teachworks book trials and recurring sessions for children's tutoring. Nanny agencies mostly use a CRM with a detailed family enquiry form and a candidate registration form with CV upload.

What the website needs from any of them

  1. A Book a viewing button on every page, one tap to live slots in Bookeo, Acuity or the nursery software, with a tappable phone number beside it.
  2. A Join the waitlist form that lands in Famly, Blossom or your system as a lead, not in an inbox.
  3. Fees and funding stated on the site, matching what the software will invoice, so "how much and does funding apply" is answered before the call.
  4. Registration and consent captured once in the platform, so the site's own forms stay short and no medical details pass through email.
  5. Confirmations and reminders written by you, carrying the address, parking and what to bring to a viewing or first session.
  6. Tested on a phone, including Instagram's in-app browser, where a lot of parents arrive from.
  7. Tracking of viewing bookings, waitlist joins and calls by page.

Choosing

  • Nursery or daycare, UK: Famly or Blossom for enquiries to enrolment, plus Bookeo or Acuity for viewing slots if the platform's own booking does not suit.
  • Nursery or daycare, US: Famly, with viewing slots through Acuity or Calendly.
  • Holiday club or after-school club, UK: ClassForKids or iPAL.
  • Baby classes: ClassForKids or TeamUp in the UK; Sawyer in the US; Bookeo anywhere.
  • Babysitting service: Acuity or Bookeo, or a custom booking form by date, time and number of children.
  • Nanny agency: a CRM with a family enquiry form and candidate registration; Calendly for consultations.

Already on one that works? Stay. The website can make any of them take the viewing and the waitlist well; switching nursery software mid-year is a project of its own.

Where this sits

Wiring whichever software a setting runs into the site, with viewing booking one tap from every page, the waitlist landing in the platform, fees matching the invoices and every button tracked, is the core of what we build into a childcare business website. The software holds the child's record; the website gets the parent into it without a voicemail.
