Best means booked

Salon websites are judged on looks more than any other business site, and looks are not the job. The best salon or barber website is the one that turns Instagram taps and Google Maps visits into booked appointments with the right stylist. The salon sites we have built and audited that measurably do this share nine traits. None is a colour scheme.

1. Book is one tap, with the stylist chosen

A Book button in the header on every page, visible on a phone without scrolling, going to live availability. On a stylist's profile it pre-selects the stylist; on a service page it pre-selects the service. The client from Sam's Instagram books Sam in two taps.

2. Under two seconds on a phone

The best salon sites are fast despite being full of photos, because the photos are sized, compressed and lazy-loaded, the hero is prioritised, and there is no slider. They pass Core Web Vitals on mobile. Most salon traffic is phones on mobile data, arriving from Instagram; the page has to appear before the thumb moves.

3. A profile per stylist that books

Photo in the salon, name, what they specialise in, their Instagram, a few of their own pieces of work, and a Book-with button. Each stylist's Instagram bio links to their profile. The site works as the booking layer for every stylist's personal following.

4. A page per service with a price

Balayage, highlights, cut and finish, men's fade, beard trim, keratin, lashes, brows, nails. Each: what it is, how long, the price, who does it, what to expect, aftercare, your work, Book pre-selecting it. These pages rank for "[service] [town]" and answer the price question before it becomes a DM.

5. Prices as editable records

The price list is data the manager updates in seconds, shown on service pages and a fees page, never an image of a card. Effective the day fees change.

Your work, on real clients, consented, organised by service, sized for phones, loading as the visitor scrolls. Not a slider; not two hundred uncompressed uploads. The best sites have galleries a phone can scroll without stalling.

7. Deposits and policies in the booking flow

Card capture or deposits for new clients and long appointments, the cancellation policy stated at booking, reminders by SMS. The diary is protected and the site says so plainly.

8. Tested in Instagram's browser

The booking flow completes inside Instagram's and Facebook's in-app browsers, because that is where the clients come from. Where an embed fails there, the link goes to the platform's hosted page instead.

9. Measured

Booking clicks by page and source, completed bookings by source from the platform, UTM tags on the bio link. The owner knows Sam's profile produced twenty bookings last month and the balayage page produced eleven. The best sites are the ones their owners can see working.

What they do not share

  • A style. Minimal and monochrome; warm and textured; loud and bright. All appear.
  • A platform. Good WordPress themes and framework builds both qualify; page-builder gallery sites rarely, because of trait 2.
  • A large budget. Most are mid four figures.
  • Many pages. Ten to twenty.

Check yours

On your phone, mobile data, private window:

  1. Taps to a live slot with a stylist chosen: two?
  2. Load time: under two seconds?
  3. Search your top service plus your town: page one with a service page?
  4. Find the price of a cut and colour: under thirty seconds?
  5. Open a stylist's page and book them.
  6. Open your Instagram, tap your bio link, tap Book, complete a booking inside Instagram.
  7. Ask your manager how many bookings the site produced last month, by page.

Seven passes is one of the best. Most salon sites we review pass two or three.

Where this sits

The nine traits are the specification for the salon sites we build and the checklist a diagnosis runs an existing one against. The look is chosen after, to suit the salon, on a structure that is already booking.
