We Post a Lot on Instagram. Does the Website Matter?

Instagram is where studios build community and the website is where strangers become members. What each does that the other cannot, how they work together.

Two different jobs

Instagram is where a studio shows its community: the room, the people, the instructors, the energy, the stories. It is the best channel most studios have for making strangers want to come. It is a poor place to actually get them in the door, because a post cannot sell an intro offer, show a live timetable, explain pricing, or reassure a nervous beginner in one place. The website does those. The two are not rivals; the website is where Instagram sends people to become members.

What Instagram does that the website cannot

  • Reach people who were not looking for you.
  • Show the community in motion, daily.
  • Let instructors build their own followings.
  • Keep members engaged between classes.
  • Make the studio feel alive before anyone visits.

Keep doing it. The question is what happens when someone taps.

What the website does that Instagram cannot

  • Sell the intro offer in one tap, with a checkout under a minute.
  • Show the live timetable, filtered to the class the post was about, bookable.
  • Explain pricing so a stranger knows what to buy.
  • Reassure the first-timer with a page that answers every worry.
  • Rank on Google for "yoga studio [town]" and "reformer Pilates near me", which is where people who were looking for you search, and where Instagram is invisible.
  • Own the relationship. Instagram can change reach, rules or exist differently next year. The website and the email list are yours.
  • Be there at 11pm when someone finally decides, with the intro one tap away.

The two-tap path

The measure of whether the website matters is how short the path is from a post to a purchase:

  1. The post or story makes someone want to try.
  2. They tap the bio link or a story link sticker.
  3. The page they land on has the intro offer as the first button and the timetable as the second.
  4. They buy the intro in under a minute and book a class.

Two taps to the offer, under a minute to buy. If the bio link goes to a home page with a video and the intro three screens down, Instagram is doing its job and the website is dropping the result.

Setting it up

  • Bio link: to the intro offer or to a one-purpose landing page whose first two buttons are "Intro offer" and "Timetable", tagged with UTM parameters.
  • Story link stickers: to the intro, to the timetable filtered to the class in the story, or to an instructor's page.
  • Instagram's Book action button: connected to your platform where supported.
  • Instructor bios: each linking to their profile on the site.
  • Captions: ending with "first class free, link in bio" more often than not.
  • The landing page: fast in Instagram's in-app browser; tested there.

The email list

Every intro buyer and every lead form on the website goes into your email or text list, which the platform holds. Instagram reach is rented; the list is owned. The website is where the list grows.

What the numbers say

Studios that track it find Instagram is usually the largest source of website visits and, once the intro path is short, of intro purchases. Google search is the second, and it grows as class-type pages rank. Neither replaces the other; the website is where both convert.

Track: visits and intro purchases by source (UTM tags and the platform's source report), monthly. If Instagram sends hundreds of visits and sells a handful of intros, the website's landing path is the problem, not the posting.

When the website matters less

A very small studio, full, with a waiting list, whose Instagram community is the whole business: the platform's page and the bio link may be enough for now. Everyone else needs the place the posts send people to.

Where this sits

We build studio websites as the destination for Instagram: the intro first, the timetable filtered, the pricing explained, the first-class page for the nervous, all fast in the in-app browser and tracked back to the post that sent them. Keep posting. Make the tap land somewhere that sells.
