The range

A pet business website costs from a free platform page to several thousand, and the spread is about whether the site takes bookings with pet details, shows prices that vary by size and breed, reassures a nervous owner about your premises, and belongs to you. Here are the bands.

Band 1: the booking platform's page, or DIY

Gingr, MoeGo, PetExec and Pawfinity give groomers, daycares and kennels a public booking page. Squarespace and Wix give a template.

Cost: nothing to low hundreds, plus the platform you already pay for.

You get: a way to book, your services and a phone number.

You do not get: your own domain ranking for "dog groomer [town]", prices by size laid out, photos of your actual premises that reassure, vaccination and consent handled before arrival, or anyone to call when it breaks.

Right for: a new sole trader in the first months.

Band 2: a template site, $800 to $2,500

A pet theme or builder template with your branding, photos and a link to booking.

You get: a presentable site with your name.

Usually missing: speed on a phone; a price list that handles size and breed rather than a single number; booking embedded with pet profiles; a premises tour; vaccination requirements stated; ownership clarity.

Right for: a business full from referral wanting a business card.

Band 3: a purpose-built pet business site, $2,500 to $6,000

Built around how owners choose and book: services with prices by size and coat as records; booking from Gingr, MoeGo, PetExec or your system embedded and deep-linked; a premises tour in real photos; vaccination, consent and intake handled through the platform before arrival; a "what to bring" page; staff with their own animals; reviews near the buttons; fast on a phone; structured data; tracking; everything in your name.

You get: a site that ranks for services in your area, answers the questions owners phone about, and books with the pet's details already captured.

Not usually included: photography, copy unless specified.

Right for: established groomers, daycares, kennels, walkers and small veterinary practices wanting new clients from search.

Band 4: multi-site and veterinary groups, $8,000 and up

Several locations, veterinary practices with online pharmacy or client portals, franchise brands.

After launch

  • Hosting: managed WordPress at $20 to $50 a month or often free on a framework host, in your name.
  • Domain: small, annual.
  • Booking platform: whatever you pay now.
  • Maintenance: a care plan at a modest monthly fee.
  • Photography: a half day for the premises, the team and animals in your care (with owner consent). Real photos of your actual kennels and grooming room are the most reassuring thing on the site.

Where the band 3 money goes

  • Prices by size and coat as structured records, so a Labrador full groom and a Chihuahua bath are both stated and both editable.
  • Booking with pet profiles, embedded and deep-linked per service, tested on phones.
  • Vaccination, consent and intake through the platform before the first visit.
  • The premises tour, because owners are handing over a family member.
  • Speed, search foundation and structured data for a local pet business.
  • Tracking of bookings, calls and enquiries by page.
  • Ownership and a recorded walkthrough.

Judging a quote

Ask: are prices by size and breed, editable; is booking embedded with pet details; are vaccination requirements and consent handled before arrival; are there real photos of the premises; what is the speed target; what is tracked; whose name is the hosting in.

What we charge

Our pet business sites are band 3 at a fixed price; the scope is on the pets page. If your site is in band 1 or 2 and owners still phone to ask what a groom costs for their breed, the number that matters is how many of those calls became bookings and how many went to the groomer whose site answered.
