Why the pet has to be in the booking

A hairdresser books a person. A groomer books a dog: its size, coat, temperament, whether it has been groomed before, whether its vaccinations are current, whether the owner has consented to the groom and to what happens if the coat is matted. A daycare books a dog with an assessment, neutering status, feeding notes and an emergency contact. Generic booking tools (a calendar plugin, a form that emails you) capture the owner and lose the dog, and the missing details become the phone call.

The setup below puts a pet-specific platform behind the Book button and the website in front of it.

Step 1: choose the platform for your kind of business

  • Grooming salons and mobile groomers: MoeGo, Gingr, Savvy Pet Spa, Fresha or Booksy. Pet profiles, breed-based durations, vaccination records, consent forms, deposits, rebooking reminders. MoeGo adds travel buffers and route planning for mobile.
  • Daycare, boarding and catteries: Gingr, PetExec, Revelation Pets or Kennel Connection. Boarding calendars with capacity, daycare packages, assessment booking, vaccination tracking with expiry, owner accounts.
  • Walkers and sitters: Time To Pet, Pet Sitter Plus, Scout or Precise Petcare. A meet-and-greet request, then recurring visits with GPS check-in and visit reports.
  • Vets: Vetstoria, ezyVet, Provet Cloud or Covetrus for online booking that registers the client and pet into the practice diary.
  • Trainers: TeamUp, Bookeo or Acuity for class places; appointments with an intake questionnaire for behaviour consults.

Already on one that works? Keep it. The website can make any of them book well.

Step 2: configure the pet profile before touching the site

In the platform, before any embed:

  1. Services with durations and prices by size and coat, matching the table you will publish on the site.
  2. Pet profile fields: name, breed, size or weight band, coat type, date of birth, neutered, temperament notes, vet details, medication, emergency contact.
  3. Vaccination fields with certificate upload and expiry dates, marked required for a first booking.
  4. Consent and agreement forms signed digitally at first booking: grooming consent, matted-coat policy, daycare terms, photo permission, cancellation policy.
  5. Deposit or card capture for grooming and boarding, with the cancellation window stated.
  6. Confirmation and reminder templates in your voice, including what to bring and a link to the first-visit page.
  7. Notifications to the right phone for new clients and new bookings.

Book a test dog from your own phone before the site links to any of it.

Step 3: one Book button, everywhere

A Book button in the header of every page, and in a slim bar fixed to the bottom of the screen on phones, beside the phone number. It opens the platform's booking with the service pre-selected wherever the page is about one service: the full groom page books a full groom, the daycare page books an assessment day, the boarding page opens the calendar.

Most platforms provide a hosted booking page and links per service; several (MoeGo, Gingr, Fresha) offer embeddable widgets. Use the link from service pages and reserve the embed for a single Book online page, so the rest of the site stays fast.

Step 4: the Book online page

One page, /book, carrying the platform's embed or a clear set of buttons per service, a line of reassurance ("You'll be asked about your dog and their vaccinations; it takes about four minutes the first time"), what is needed for a first booking, and the phone number. Reserve the embed's height so the page does not jump while it loads. Nothing else on it.

Step 5: the first-visit page does the explaining

The booking flow asks for vaccinations and consent; the site's Your first visit page explains why, what counts as current, how to upload a certificate, whether owners stay, and how long it takes. Linked from the Book page, the confirmation message and the header. Owners who read it complete the booking; owners who do not phone.

Step 6: match the site to the platform

The prices on the site come from the platform's matrix. The services listed on the site are the services bookable in the platform, with the same names. The cancellation policy on the site is the one the platform enforces. Mismatches are where disputes at the till start.

Step 7: test on a phone, including Instagram

Safari and Chrome, and the in-app browsers in Instagram and Facebook, where a lot of pet traffic arrives from. Book a new dog end to end: profile, vaccination upload, consent signature, deposit, confirmation received. If an embed misbehaves in an in-app browser, send those visitors to the platform's hosted page instead.

Step 8: track it

A booking_click event on every Book tap with the page and service as parameters; the platform's new-client report for completed bookings and their source; a look at both monthly. Then you know which service page books and which one is read and abandoned.

Where this sits

Online booking with the pet captured first, one tap from every page, is the core of every pet business website we build, whether it is a grooming salon on MoeGo, a daycare on Gingr or a dog walker on Time To Pet. The platform holds the dog's record. The website gets the owner into it without a phone call.
