The short answer
It depends on what you book. Groomers book a dog for a slot with a size and coat attached. Daycares book days against capacity. Kennels and catteries book stays against a calendar of pens. Vets book a consult type with a named vet. Walkers book a recurring visit to a house. Each has software built for exactly that, and the right answer is the one built for your kind of booking, not the general-purpose calendar plugin your web developer already knows.
Here is the list we give when a pet business asks, by business type.
Grooming salons
MoeGo, Gingr, Savvy Pet Spa, Fresha or Booksy. All hold a pet profile with breed, size and coat, set durations by breed, take deposits, store vaccination records, carry consent forms and send rebooking reminders. MoeGo is the most grooming-specific of the five; Fresha and Booksy are salon tools that work for grooming salons that also want a marketplace listing.
Mobile groomers
MoeGo, Savvy Pet Spa, Fresha or Booksy. The difference from the salon list is travel: a mobile groomer needs the booking to capture the address and parking, check the area, and add travel buffers between jobs. MoeGo and Savvy Pet Spa handle that most directly.
Daycare, boarding kennels and home boarders
Gingr, PetExec, Revelation Pets or Kennel Connection. These are built around capacity and calendars: daycare packages, boarding with pen or run assignment, assessment days as a first booking, vaccination tracking with expiry, digitally signed agreements, owner accounts, and report cards during the stay. Any of the four works for a daycare or kennel; Gingr and PetExec are the common choice where daycare and grooming run under one roof.
Catteries
Revelation Pets, Gingr, PetExec or Kennel Connection. The same list as boarding, because a cattery books the same way: a pen type, dates, vaccination records, medication notes and an owner account. Revelation Pets is popular with smaller catteries.
Veterinary clinics
Vetstoria for online booking on top of the practice management system, or the booking built into ezyVet, Provet Cloud or Covetrus. Online booking for a vet has to register the client and the pet, choose the appointment type and the vet, and land in the practice diary without a receptionist re-keying it, which is what these do. Equine practices book by route day, and equine vets and farriers often use practice software or ServiceM8 and Jobber instead.
Dog walkers and pet sitters
Time To Pet, Pet Sitter Plus, Scout or Precise Petcare. Built for a meet-and-greet request followed by recurring visits: schedules by week, GPS check-in, visit reports with photos sent to the owner, key and access notes, and monthly invoicing. Walkers and sitters do not need a pen calendar; they need this.
Dog trainers and behaviourists
Two kinds of booking. Puppy and obedience classes are places on a course, which TeamUp, Bookeo or Acuity handle. Behaviour consults are appointments with an intake questionnaire, which Acuity or the practice software handles. Trainers usually run both from one site with the two kept clearly apart.
What they all have in common
Every tool above embeds on your own website, either as a widget or as a hosted booking page you link to. Most collect vaccination records and consent forms at first booking and store them on the pet's profile. All send confirmations and reminders you can write yourself. All report where bookings came from. The website's job is to put a Book button on every page, deep-linked to the right service, and to explain on a first-visit page what the booking will ask for.
What does not work
A generic calendar plugin, or a contact form that emails you a request to "book in Bella". Neither knows what a dog is: no size, no coat, no vaccination expiry, no consent, no capacity. The details the tool did not collect become the phone call, and the phone call is what you were trying to remove.
If you already use one
Keep it. Every tool listed here can be made to book well from a website. Switching platforms means moving every pet profile and every owner account, and it is rarely worth it for a website project. The exception is a business still booking on paper or in a personal calendar, which should choose from the list for its business type before the site is built.
