Best means the viewing is booked
Childcare websites compete on warmth, and warmth is easy: pastel colours, a hand-drawn logo, a photo of small wellies. The best nursery, holiday club, baby class and agency websites, measured by viewings booked and places filled, share nine traits that answer what a parent is actually asking: can I picture my child here, can I trust these people, what does it cost, and can I book a viewing now.
1. Every room, photographed as it is
A page per room with real photographs of that room: the cots, the messy play, the reading corner, the garden it opens onto. Age range, ratio and the key person approach on the same page. The outdoor space with its own set. No stock images. This is the single most persuasive thing a setting can publish, and most sites have a gallery of eight thumbnails instead.
2. The inspection rating linked to the report
The rating on the home page and every room page, linked to the actual report, not a logo in the footer. Where the regime has no public rating, the registration or licence number and the inspecting body named.
3. Staff qualifications and vetting stated
An Our team page with each person's role, qualifications, first aid and the vetting checks the setting runs, plus ratios per room. Parents are choosing who looks after their child, and the sites that state this plainly get the viewing over the ones that say "our wonderful team".
4. One plain fees and funding page
Sessions, fees, what is included, how funded hours or subsidies apply, extras, deposits, notice, how to apply. Editable by the setting each September. The parent has the number before they tap Book a viewing.
5. Viewings booked online, one tap from every page
A Book a viewing button in the header on every page, to live slots in Bookeo, Acuity or the nursery software, with a confirmation carrying parking and what to bring. A tappable phone number beside it. Parents research at night; the best sites book the visit while the intent is there.
6. A waitlist that lands somewhere
Join the waitlist as a short form: child's date of birth, sessions wanted, start date, contact. It lands in Famly, Blossom or the setting's system as a lead with an acknowledgement, and the office reviews it against occupancy monthly.
7. A day with us, and a safeguarding page
A day-in-the-life page: arrival, breakfast, free play, outdoor time, lunch, sleep, pick-up, told plainly with photos. A Safeguarding page with the policy, the designated lead and how a concern is raised. Together they answer the questions parents feel awkward asking at a viewing.
8. Under two seconds on a phone
Photo-heavy and still fast: images sized and lazy-loaded, the hero prioritised, no slider. Passes Core Web Vitals on mobile, because the parent is on a phone during a night feed.
9. Measured
Viewing bookings, waitlist joins and calls tracked by page. The enquiry source recorded in the software. The manager knows the toddler room page produced eight viewings last month.
What they do not share
- A look. Soft and pastel; bright and playful; calm and Scandinavian. All work.
- A platform. Famly, Blossom, ClassForKids, Sawyer and Bookeo all appear behind good sites.
- A large budget. Most are mid four figures.
- A single type of setting. A nursery has room pages; a holiday club has programme pages by week; a nanny agency has two routes on the first screen, one for families and one for candidates. The nine traits translate.
Check yours
On your phone, mobile data, private window:
- Find a photograph of the room your child would be in. Under thirty seconds?
- Click the inspection rating. Does it open the report?
- Find how your staff are vetted and what qualifications they hold.
- Find the fee for a full day and whether funding applies. Under thirty seconds?
- Tap Book a viewing without scrolling. Are there live slots?
- Join the waitlist. Did you get an acknowledgement saying what happens next?
- Load time under two seconds?
- Ask whoever runs the office how many viewings the site produced last month.
Eight passes is one of the best. Most childcare sites we review pass two or three.
Where this sits
The nine traits are the specification for the childcare business websites we build and the checklist a diagnosis runs an existing site against. The warmth is welcome; it goes on top of a structure that has already shown the parent the room, told them the fee and booked the viewing.
