Best means booked, and booked again

Grooming websites compete on cuteness, and cuteness is cheap. Judged instead on new regular dogs booked and kept, the good ones share nine traits. All nine answer the two questions an owner is holding when they land on the page: what will this cost for my dog, and can I trust these people with him for three hours.

1. A price matrix, not a "from"

Sizes down the side with weight bands, coat types across the top, breed examples in the cells. De-matting, hand stripping, nails, teeth and flea treatment priced separately underneath. A line on what moves the price on the day. The owner of a cockapoo knows the number before they tap Book, and so do you when they arrive.

2. Book in one tap, with the service already chosen

A Book button in the header on every page, deep-linked into MoeGo, Gingr, Savvy Pet Spa, Fresha or whichever platform runs the diary, with the service pre-selected and a tappable phone number beside it. Tested inside the Instagram in-app browser.

3. Under two seconds on a phone

Grooming sites are gallery-heavy, so this takes work: images sized and compressed, hero prioritised, gallery lazy-loaded, no slider. Core Web Vitals Good on mobile.

4. The salon shown as it is

The bath, the table, the dryers, the holding area, the front desk, and the groomers with their own dogs. Not stock. This is the most persuasive content a salon can publish and most sites have none of it. Before-and-after sets from real clients, with permission, do the rest.

The platform's flow captures the pet profile, the vaccination upload and the signed consent covering matted coats and shave-downs. A first-groom page tells owners what is needed in advance. The appointment then starts with a dog, not a clipboard.

6. A page per service

Full groom, bath and tidy, puppy first groom, hand stripping, de-matting, nails and small services, cat grooming if you do it. Each with what it involves, who it suits, how long it takes, its slice of the matrix, photos, FAQs and its own Book button. These are the pages that rank for the searches owners actually type.

7. The nervous owner answered plainly

How long a dog is with you and whether they wait between stages. Crated or free. What happens if a dog will not settle. The muzzle policy. The shave-down policy for a coat past saving. What you do about elderly dogs and dogs with health conditions. Your training, insurance and first aid. Specific beats warm.

8. Reviews and credentials beside the buttons

Google reviews pulled in with space reserved so nothing jumps, placed next to Book on service pages. Grooming qualifications, canine first aid, insurance, and where a local animal activity licence applies, its number displayed.

9. Rebooking built in, and measured

Reminders at your interval, four, six or eight weeks, one tap to take the same slot. Booking clicks, call taps and enquiries recorded by page. The owner of the salon can say how many first grooms the puppy page produced last month.

What the best ones do not share

  • A look. Bright and playful, calm and premium, and plain and rural all work.
  • A platform. MoeGo, Gingr, Savvy Pet Spa, Fresha and Booksy all appear.
  • A big budget. Most are mid four figures.
  • Many pages. Nine or ten well-made pages beats thirty.

Test your own, on your phone

Mobile data, private window, as if you had never seen it:

  1. Find the price of a full groom for a medium curly-coated dog. Under thirty seconds?
  2. Tap Book without scrolling. Is the service pre-selected? Does the flow ask about the dog?
  3. Time the home page and one service page. Under two seconds?
  4. Find a photo of your actual bathing area.
  5. Find what vaccinations you require and how consent is signed, before booking anything.
  6. Search your main service plus your town. Is a service page of yours on page one?
  7. Find out whether a puppy's first groom is different from an adult groom.
  8. Ask whoever runs the desk how many bookings the site produced last month, by service.

Seven or eight passes puts you among the best grooming sites in your town. Most salons pass two or three.

Where this sits

Those nine traits are the specification we build a dog grooming salon website to, and the list a diagnosis runs an existing site against. The same thinking shapes the rest of our pet business websites, from mobile rounds to daycare. The cuteness is welcome. It goes on top of a structure that has already answered the price question and shown the owner the room.
