Massage is an impulse purchase, and impulses do not phone
Someone decides they want a massage at ten in the evening. If your site says "call to book", the impulse is gone by the time you open. That single mismatch costs a massage clinic more bookings than everything else combined.
Cause 1: booking is a phone call
The change: live availability and a book button on every treatment page, working at ten at night. Fresha, Timely, Cliniko, Jane, Acuity and Square Appointments all provide it. This is not a convenience feature in this trade — it is the whole business model.
Cause 2: no-shows are eating the diary
A booked hour that does not arrive cannot be resold, and massage has no walk-in trade to backfill it.
The change: a deposit at booking, redeemable against the treatment. It cuts no-shows sharply and clients accept it without complaint once it is standard.
Cause 3: clinical and relaxation work share one page
A sports client with a shoulder problem and a client buying a birthday treat want completely different things, and a single "our treatments" page serves neither.
The change: separate pages and separate booking types — sports and remedial on one side, relaxation and pregnancy on the other — each with its own price and duration. Wrong-duration bookings damage a massage diary as much as missed ones.
Cause 4: the menu is not readable by Google or editable by you
The change: a treatment menu with prices and durations, structured so search engines can read it, and editable without a developer. Prices change; a menu you cannot edit becomes wrong and then becomes hidden.
Cause 5: therapists are anonymous
Clients rebook a person, not a room.
The change: a profile per therapist with qualifications, specialisms and a booking button for that therapist.
Cause 6: gift vouchers are not sold online
The change: sell them through your booking or payment tool. They cost nothing to list, they sell themselves in December, and they bring in a new client who did not choose you.
Cause 7: insurance and health-fund claims go unmentioned
The change: who can claim, with which providers, and how receipts are issued. For remedial work this converts clients who would otherwise not have considered the price.
Fix them in this order
Online booking first, deposits second — those two together transform the economics. Splitting clinical from relaxation third. Then the menu, therapist profiles, vouchers and claims.
Where this sits
Our massage clinic websites ship with live booking, deposits and separated treatment types, at a fixed price. The audit version is the massage clinic checklist. The wider clinic view is on the clinics page.
