Six tests, one phone, ten minutes

Come off the clinic Wi-Fi onto mobile data, open your site in a private window, and work down the list. Each test is something a client physically does before parting with money. Note which ones fail rather than how many.

1. Reserve tonight's last slot without ringing anybody

The test: pick any treatment and try to hold the next free appointment, start to finish, on your phone.

Pass: live availability appears, you choose a time, and a card deposit holds it.

Fail: "call to book", an enquiry form, or a calendar that shows nothing until the diary opens tomorrow.

The fix: availability embedded from whichever of Fresha, Timely, Cliniko, Jane, Acuity or Square Appointments you run, with card deposits switched on.

2. Learn what an hour costs, in two taps

The test: from the home page, find the price of one hour of your most popular treatment.

Pass: a menu listing each treatment with lengths and prices, reachable from the navigation.

Fail: "prices on request", a PDF, or a figure that appears only once you are inside the booking flow.

The fix: a treatment menu you can edit yourself, marked up so a search engine reads lengths and prices as data, not as a picture of a price list.

3. Walk the site twice, as two different people

The test: once as somebody with a stiff shoulder wanting remedial or sports work, then as somebody buying an hour of quiet as a present.

Pass: two routes that barely meet. Sports and remedial on one side, relaxation and pregnancy on the other, each with its own booking type.

Fail: a single "our treatments" page holding all of it, where both visitors scroll past most of it to find their share.

The fix: split the site along that line — each half with its own pages, prices and booking type. It is the failure nobody notices, because the page looks fine to whoever wrote it.

4. Choose the therapist by name

The test: try to find out who would be treating you, then book that person.

Pass: a profile each, carrying qualifications and specialisms, with a button that books that therapist's diary.

Fail: a group photograph, first names with nothing attached, or one calendar that assigns whoever is free.

The fix: a page per therapist listing qualifications and specialisms, each with its own bookable link.

5. Buy a voucher at eleven at night

The test: try to buy a gift voucher without speaking to a human being.

Pass: purchasable on the site through your booking or payment tool, delivered by email.

Fail: "vouchers available in clinic", or an email address to enquire at.

The fix: sell them through the tool that already takes your deposits. The buyer is usually a stranger buying for someone who has never heard of you, and they will not wait until Monday.

6. Answer the claims question cold

The test: as somebody wanting the cost reimbursed, find out whether you can claim, who with, and how the receipt arrives.

Pass: a page naming who can claim, which insurers or funds, and how receipts are issued.

Fail: silence, or a line telling you to ask at reception.

The fix: state it plainly and issue receipts through your booking tool. What a practice may say about claims, registration and testimonials differs by country, so check the rules where you practise.

Reading the result

Six out of six is uncommon and the total is not the point. Test 1 decides whether anything else matters: a massage booking is decided in a moment, and a phone call postpones it out of existence. Test 2 is the other half of that pair, because a price nobody can find just removes you from the comparison. Test 3 is where a clinic doing both kinds of work loses part of every visit. Tests 4, 5 and 6 are revenue you can already deliver and are not asking for.

Where this sits

Our massage clinic websites are built to pass all six at a fixed price. For the same ground ordered by cost, read why your massage clinic website gets no bookings. For what the build comes to, see what a massage clinic website costs; for the claims page, the country rules.
