Six names, one shared baseline

Fresha, Timely, Cliniko, Jane, Acuity and Square Appointments are the systems massage practices run. All six already handle what a massage diary needs structurally: a treatment menu, durations, deposits and reminders. Worth saying before comparing anything, because it removes the question most therapists open with: capability is not the differentiator here. Fit is.

The pattern that predicts the answer

One split runs through the list. Clinical practices tend to land on Cliniko or Jane. Relaxation and spa-style practices tend to land on Fresha or Timely. Acuity and Square Appointments sit either side of that line, usually depending on what else the business already sells through them.

So the first thing to settle is not the software but which half of your diary is bigger. Remedial and sports work pulls towards the clinical end; relaxation, pregnancy and vouchers pull towards the spa end. A clinic doing both should choose for the larger half, then check the smaller half is survivable.

Why there is no ranked table here

A ranking of six schedulers tells one practice almost nothing. What suits a sole therapist renting a room three days a week is not what suits a four-therapist clinic with a sports arm. So here instead are the questions that separate them for massage. Ask them on a free trial, with your own menu loaded.

Can one treatment carry three lengths?

Set up a single treatment at thirty, sixty and ninety minutes with three prices, then look at what a client sees. Three separate items in a list, or one item with a length picker? Does the price update before the card screen? Half an hour booked against a ninety-minute treatment leaves you an hour you cannot resell, and that happens because of how the menu was modelled, not because the client was careless.

What does the deposit actually do?

Every one of the six can take a card deposit, so the real question is handling. On the trial, with a test card: is the money taken at the moment of booking, or authorised and captured later? Does it come off the treatment price at the end, or sit as a credit somebody has to remember? What happens to it when a client cancels inside your notice period? You will be explaining that answer on the phone, so pick one you can explain.

Can a client book a therapist rather than a slot?

People rebook a person. Where a clinic has more than one therapist, check three things: whether availability can be filtered to one of them, whether each can carry their own treatments and lengths, and whether a link exists that books that therapist directly. That last one is what a profile page needs, and its absence is why so many clinic sites funnel everybody into one generic diary.

Can it hold two front doors?

Ask whether the tool supports separate booking types with their own questions attached, so the two halves of the practice do not share one intake. If it can only run one form for everything, the sports side and the relaxation side answer each other's questions and you sort it out by email.

Do vouchers and receipts live in the same place?

Two things a massage practice needs that a general scheduler may not carry: a gift voucher bought outright and redeemed against a later booking, and a receipt a client can hand to an insurer or a health fund. Ask whether both are native. If not, find out what the second tool is and who reconciles the two at month end.

What it does to the page it sits on

Load the trial embed on a real phone, on mobile data. Some widgets arrive quietly at the right width; some pull in a large script and shove the page around. Whichever you choose, it belongs on the booking page and nowhere else.

Where this sits

Every massage clinic website we build embeds whichever of the six you already run, wired to your calendar, at a fixed price. For what the build itself comes to, read what a massage clinic website costs, or run the six phone tests on the site you have now.
